Frequently Asked Questions

Buying a puppy is very personal process. We encourage you to speak with us directly so we can best assist you.

  • When will you have more lab puppies?

We have litters born throughout the year, but availability varies. Fill out our inquiry form, or call Harold today at (802) 535 4756 to find out what’s available.

  • Can I reserve a puppy before it’s born?

  • Yes, once you’ve decided to get a puppy, you can make a refundable deposit at any time. We often book pups months, sometimes up to a year, in advance.

  • How do I choose a Puppy?

The process is different for everyone. Harold is adept at hearing your needs as a dog-owner-to-be. He’ll help guide your decision as you choose the right color, gender, and size dog.

  • How much do your pups cost?

Call Harold at (802) 535 4756 for price.

  • Are you a licensed breeder?

Yes, we are licensed with both the town of Hardwick and the State of Vermont  to breed and sell dogs. Our facility has been inspected by the VT Dept. of Agriculture and by the American Kennel Club.

  • Are your dogs AKC-registered?

Yes, all of our dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club. All of our puppies come AKC register-able.

  • How are your dogs’ temperaments?

  • Our first priority is the friendly disposition of our Labs.  We raise amiable, intelligent, and happy animals that will be long-lived best friends for you and your family.

  • Are your Labs English-bred or Field-bred?

Our Labrador Retrievers reflect a combination of the two. They are more English bred with some American field breeding in their pedigrees. They have the classic blocky head, they love to retrieve and learn, and they’re very attractive.

  • How big are your Labs?

When full grown, our labs are of medium size.  Females range from 55-70 lbs. Males range from 70 to 85 lbs.

  • Are Labrador Retrievers children/family friendly?

Yes! We have two adult sons who played constantly with our puppies and dogs through their entire childhood.  Your kids, neighbors, and relatives will love the dog, and the dog will love them back.

  • Are there differences between a male and a female dog?

Subtle differences in behavior patterns and size can be found. Consult with Harold to find out if one or the other may suit your situation best.

  • What’s the difference between chocolate, yellow and black labs?

The only difference is their color! We’ve found no difference in temperament or intelligence between the different color coats.

  • How are your dogs’ hips?

Healthy!  We X-ray all of our breeding stock to be sure they are good for breeding.

  • What’s covered in your Health Warranty?

  • Pups are covered for the existence of congenital malformations or hereditary disease for the first year of life. If something were to go wrong we would compensate you up to the purchase price of the pup to make a correction. We are licensed to breed and sell dogs with the State Dept of Agriculture. As such, we are required to use the state health warranty, of which you will sign and receive a copy when you pick up your pup.  You can read the state guidelines here:
